DEPARTMENT of HUMAN and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, UCD

Awarding Academic Unit Credit for Variable Unit Course Work

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

I. COURSE WORK REQUIRING CONTRACTS

Written contracts signed by the student, faculty sponsor, and field supervisor (as appropriate) are mandatory if students are to receive academic unit credit for this work. Students must submit a completed contract in order to receive a course registration number (CRN#). Adherence to the UCD Registrar's add/drop policies and deadlines will be enforced. If a student manages to enroll without a contract, and/or fails to negotiate conditions for a grade prior to the add deadline, and/or fails to submit materials so agreed upon, they will receive an ENWS grade. To request a grade change will then require both a completed contract and a written explanation of special circumstances. HCD faculty will not approve late ADD or DROP requests unless the student submits a written statement that the need is due to circumstances beyond the student's control, including an explanation and documentation of the special circumstances necessitating this exception. Completed contracts must be on file with the HCD Department (1332 internship office) BEFORE students begin their internships (hours of field work).

II. ADD/DROP ENROLLMENT POLICY

The last day to ADD a course without the Dean's approval is the 15th day of instruction. These dates are posted by the UCD Registrar. Departments do not receive funding for course work added after the 15th day of instruction.

HCD faculty will not approve late ADD or DROP requests unless the student submits a written statement that the need is due to circumstances beyond the student's control, including an explanation and documentation of the special circumstances necessitating this exception. If students request late ADDS or DROPS with only verbal approval from faculty, the student will be referred back to the faculty sponsor with a request that a letter be written in the student's behalf, substantiating the legitimacy of the student's claim.

Students without completed contracts on file by the end of the 15th day of instruction, or whose unit credit exceeds that recorded on their contract, will be subject to an automatic administrative drop of related units. Contracts will not be processed until the following quarter if they are received after the last day to ADD course work via RSVP. To defer unit credit, students must first have the approval of their faculty sponsor.

It is the student's responsibility to provide a completed contract, obtain the course-related CRN#, and enroll by the UCD Registrar's last day to ADD via RSVP.
