Teaching Philosophy

The core of my teaching philosophy is to empower students to become engaged in a lifetime of interdisciplinary learning in the social sciences. This involves stimulating their curiosity, helping them to recognize the importance of well framed questions, and enabling them to understand the basic interconnections between social theory, research, and practice. This requires a pedagogy in which students become directly involved in learning not merely from texts but from experience in the conduct of inquiry and from informed conversations with each other. These goals are reflected in each of the courses I teach: CRD 151, CRD 157, and CRD 245.

Courses Taught

CRD 151: Community Research and Analysis

CRD 157: Politics and Community Development

CRD 245: Political Economy of Urban and Regional Development
